Basic Keelboat Part 1 & Part 2

Starting to sail is easy at Ocean Sailing Academy (OSA)! Our Basic Keelboat courses are formatted to take the novice from no knowledge to the competent sailor. The course begins with the basics of sailing and concludes with skippering ability and crew coordination.

Graduates of OSA's Basic Keelboat courses are confident, highly skilled keelboat sailors, prepared to enjoy day-sailing on boats up to 30 feet.

Duration (P1 & P2): 4 full days of instruction
Prerequisites: None
Boat: Tlller-steered Colgate 26'

Part 1 (Days 1-2) Includes:

Part 2 (Days 3-4) Includes:

  • Fine tuning Sail Trim
  • Advanced Sail Handling
  • Close Quarter Sail Control
  • Speed Control
  • Chart Reading and Line of Sight Navigation
  • Crew Coordination (so your friends can have fun too!)
  • Sail Planning
  • Docking under Sail
  • Rules of the Road
  • More Crew Overboard Recovery Practice
  • Starting and Stopping
  • Skippering Certification

Ocean Sailing Academy teaches classes in full-day sessions with up tp 6 students per instructor, guaranteeing students a high level of personalized attention.

Upon completion of Basic Keelboat Parts 1 & 2, the student is eligible to receive the U.S. Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification.
